The diagnosis of anencephaly was made during the pregnancy, and despite being informed about their son’s condition after a medical test, parents Brittany and Braddon Bell adamantly refused the option of abortion. Doctors consistently warned Nara that the child might pass away at any time, with very slim chances of surviving until birth. However, Jackson’s parents chose to embrace their child.
Anencephaly is usually considered a life-incompatible condition, with more than half of affected babies not surviving the gestation period or passing away soon after birth. Contrary to these grim expectations, Jackson celebrated his second birthday in 2016.
The credit for this remarkable journey largely goes to Jackson’s parents, who, against numerous suggestions to opt for abortion or abandon their child, took on the responsibility of caring for their son.
“Many people doubted Jackson would make it to a year, but today, we are still together, celebrating our child’s second birthday,” shared Braddon on Facebook. He firmly believes that their enduring love and attentive care played a pivotal role in reaching this milestone. Jackson encounters daily anxiety attacks, and his growth and weight gain are slower, yet he continues to develop, even sporting a set of golden curls.
Braddon and Brittany express daily gratitude, hoping to remain close to their son for as long as possible, cherishing every new stage of his unique journey.
