Giraldelli reflected on the challenges, stating, “It was a very tiring and difficult time for me and my son when I always felt the eyes of society watching and whispering things that I myself knew were not good, good at all! The looks of pity, contempt, fear, and sometimes disgust are always directed at us.”
Undeterred by these challenges, Giraldelli and her husband opted to embrace Enzo’s unique features, encouraging him to believe in himself. They emphasize that despite his birthmark, Enzo is just like any other child who can play, make friends, and experience love.
On a special occasion, Giraldelli enlisted the help of a makeup artist friend to paint her face with a birthmark identical to Enzo’s. This experiential approach aimed to deepen her understanding of the prejudices her son faces, yielding surprising results.
“After the makeup was done, I was really surprised and touched because I felt like the most beautiful woman in the world. When I got home, Enzo’s reaction was pure joy and happiness, even though he didn’t fully understand everything. After taking photos to capture this beautiful moment, I went to work with makeup on. Everyone looked at me differently, but I remained calm because I felt like the proudest mother in the world,” shared Giraldelli.
Enzo, born in May 2017, initially raised concerns about the birthmark, but Giraldelli was ultimately grateful that her son was born healthy. Recognizing the need to be resilient and courageous to help Enzo navigate potential obstacles, Giraldelli has become a staunch advocate for her son’s self-esteem.
After sharing a picture of herself with a simulated birthmark on social media, Giraldelli received an outpouring of support and encouraging comments. She believes that her experience resonates with countless mothers facing similar situations.
